Help Keep Avondale Borough Safe This Summer

Dry weather increases the risk of drought, wildfires, and water shortages. Every resident can help protect our community by conserving water and using extra caution with outdoor activities.

💧 Conserve Water

Simple steps can make a big difference.

  • Water lawns and gardens only when necessary.
  • Water early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce evaporation.
  • Repair leaking faucets, toilets, and hoses.
  • Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
  • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or washing your vehicle.
  • Sweep sidewalks and driveways instead of using a hose.

Conserving water helps ensure an adequate water supply for residents and emergency services.

🔥 Fire Safety During Dry Conditions

Even if a formal burn ban has not been issued, dry vegetation can ignite quickly.

Please remember:

  • Follow all Borough regulations regarding open burning.
  • Never leave a fire unattended.
  • Properly extinguish fire pits, grills, and campfires before leaving them.
  • Dispose of cigarettes and smoking materials safely—never toss them onto the ground or from a vehicle.
  • Keep combustible materials away from grills and outdoor cooking equipment.
  • Report any signs of wildfire or uncontrolled outdoor fires immediately by calling 911.

🎆 Fireworks Safety

Fireworks can quickly start fires during dry weather.

If you choose to use consumer fireworks:

  • Follow all Pennsylvania laws regarding consumer fireworks.
  • Use fireworks only in a safe, open area away from homes, vehicles, trees, dry grass, and other combustible materials.
  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
  • Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
  • Never relight malfunctioning fireworks.
  • Dispose of used fireworks only after they have cooled completely and been soaked with water.
  • Be considerate of your neighbors, pets, veterans, and those sensitive to loud noises.

Always call 911 immediately if a fire starts or someone is injured.
